You May Be New! Know Your Rights, Responsibilities, and Representation

Faculty, are you new, feeling new, or new-curious? Maybe you started just before or during the pandemic, or maybe you’ve more recently joined us. The United Faculty of Evergreen is excited to welcome you and, if you haven’t met us, introduce you to the union. Whether you come to us from another institution, or are in a new role at Evergreen, or are brand new to teaching, we want to help you understand your rights and responsibilities and let you know what it means to be represented by a faculty union.

We’ve organized two upcoming information sessions, “You May Be New! Know Your Rights, Responsibilities, and Representation.”

In-Person Session

Date: Thursday, May 16th

Time: 4:45pm – 5:30pm (Light food and social time until 6pm)

Location: CAB 301

Online “Short & Sweet” Session

Date: Monday, May 20th

Time: 5pm – 5:30pm

Location: https://evergreen.zoom.us/j/85862103963

At these sessions, we’ll cover how the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) outlines the parameters of your faculty role. We’ll discuss some specific CBA sections that are likely of key interest, like those outlining our job responsibilities, faculty membership status, pay and compensation, and procedures for working through questions around your working conditions. Please come with questions if you have them!

Most importantly, we want to emphasize that the United Faculty of Evergreen supports and represents all faculty members in the bargaining unit, regardless of membership status. That means, whether or not you pay union dues, we’re here for you.

We look forward to meeting you, hopefully at one of these sessions, but in any context. If you can’t come, feel free to email either of us, just to introduce yourself or with questions. Your engagement is really the source of our power to build and sustain a positive working environment for all.
